Take a journey along the Nile River, back to a time when pharaohs ruled and pyramids filled the landscape. Create headdresses, jewelry and powerful scarabs, fit for a pharaoh or queen.

Modern Art 4 Kids

Is it modern art or toddler art? In this class we will have the best of both worlds! Young artists will visit the Museum’s exhibition, When Modern Was Contemporary to gain inspiration from the unique and beautiful works made by modern artists like Jackson Pollock, Alexander Calder, and more!

Folk Art Extravaganza
Thursdays, November 2, 9, 16, 30

Explore traditional art forms from around the globe. Projects will include dolls, mobiles, and magnets inspired by artwork from Russia, Mexico, Scandinavia and India.

When King Tut’s tomb was discovered, excavators uncovered a treasure trove of objects buried with him. Learn more about the fascinating story of the “boy king” and create art inspired by his time including a pharaoh’s headdress, jewelry, and a landscape of the mighty Nile River.

Explore the fascinating world of modern art from Alexander Calder’s fun mobiles; to Jackson’s Pollock’s paint splattered canvases and more! Young artists will experience these great works first hand through the Museum’s exhibition When Modern Was Contemporary and learn what made these works so innovative for their time.

Ophelia Adelai Cornet is head art teacher and summer art coordinator at the museum. She is forever inspired and delighted by her young art students’ spontaneity and talent. Her teaching is complemented by her love of painting as well as ceramics, design, gardening and travel.

Museum School Winter Weather Policy

Please note that Museum cancels classes if the Albuquerque Public Schools (city wide) are closed. When Albuquerque Public Schools are on a two hour delay, Museum School classes will start one hour later. If the Museum cancels a class due to weather or illness, a make- up class date will be provided.

Albuquerque Museum seeks to enhance children's artistic and cultural development through year-round classes and workshops in art and history. Classes for all ages from preschool to seniors are offered at nominal fees so that they are available to all.
